| When Westinghouse Communities of Naples, Inc., purchased 2,104 acres along the Gulf of Mexico in 1972, they had one goal in mind: First, to create a benchmark community that would do justice to it's pristine three-mile stretch of Gulf beach and mangrove forested western border. Second, to the natural beauty of it's pine and palmetto uplands, and to it's sophisticated residential neighbor to the south, Naples, Florida. And third, to cater to all of its future resident's zest for the finest place to live. After nearly six years of site studies, planning, engineering, and scrutiny through local, regional, state and federal agencies, Pelican Bay 's master plan was complete. Today this plan has unfolded to reveal an award-winning community that has been applauded as one of Florida's finest examples of planned community living—a community which now provides the superior lifestyle enjoyed by nearly 15,000 people.
More than 500 acres at Pelican Bay have been set aside as nature preserves, an area rich in estuarine bay systems, red, white and black mangrove forests, and a natural coastal dune that provides three miles of secluded sugar-white sand beaches. Elevated pavilions provide large, open decks for sunbathing, shady areas for picnicking, showers and restroom facilities. There are also the tropical, open-air charm of the Sand Bar restaurant on the south end and the Sandpiper restaurant & beach club to the north. |

Elevated boardwalks were constructed by workers and machinery that never touched the mangrove floor so as not to disturb this sensitive environment. Today, these boardwalks wind their way to the beach, providing a bridge from the neighborhoods of Pelican Bay to a world teeming with natural beauty and native wildlife. An unspoiled preserve designed to be enjoyed by residents for generations to come. Millions of people have made the trip down the boardwalks since they opened in the early 1980's.
Pelican Bay not only provides a beautiful home and a great lifestyle, but also gives residents the services needed for convenient day-to-day living. These include the added convenience of specialty and neighborhood shopping, financial institutions, houses of worship, a branch of the county library, first-class office buildings and all with easy access from both within and outside Pelican Bay. Two world-class hotels are also located within the community, with the Ritz-Carlton on the northwest corner and the Registry Resort in the southwest corner. Watching over many of the community amenities is the Pelican Bay of Naples Foundation, Inc., a non-profit Florida corporation that serves as the community association for residents and landowners providing beachside tram service and facilities management, security force and community newsletters, events and functions. |
